This picturesque and challenging championship links is over 100 years old and is recognized as one of Ireland’s greatest courses. It is one of the most popular golf destinations in Ireland and when you experience its charms you will understand why. The club is the home of the famous West of Ireland Open amateur championship played every Easter since 1923. It has hosted many other prestigious events including the Home Internationals, the Irish Close and the Irish Professional Match play Championship.
The course boasts one of the most scenic locations in Ireland perched on cliffs that tower over three expansive beaches overlooking the Atlantic. The panoramic mountain and ocean views are spectacular but they pale in comparison to the stunning scenery provided by Benbulben, an enormous limestone rock formation that the area is known for.
Besides the great views, the golf course offers an excellent challenge. The traditional links layout, designed by Harry Colt, utilizes the natural contours of the dune-covered landscape rather than moving large amounts of earth during its design. The end result is a course filled with dramatic undulations, elevated tees, and raised plateau greens.
County Sligo Golf Club, known for its promotion of junior golf, has extended a special welcome to the Irish Kids Golf Tour in the past and we have been made feel extremely welcome in one of the West of Irelands top courses.
